The 18 year old has already competed for GB in the European Championships this winter and was excited to be stepping up to the highest level of competition as a Junior International. She started the race as one of the favourites with a few of her closest rivals being too old for this competition but she still had to produce the result when it mattered and under this high expectation level. She stuck to her pre-race tactics of sitting back off the opening pace and out of danger at the tricky tight first bend shortly after the start but soon made her presence felt during the second lap to move to the front. She opened up a good lead as she approached the long straight to the finish line, knowing that both the Championship title and the team selection were hers as she broke the tape being held across the finish line with a huge smile on her face.
The Championships were being held at the parkland course surrounding Prestwold Hall for the third year, attracting over 40 Counties and National Regional teams in the ten race event and over 300 competitors in each. Cornwall fielded strong teams in most with the Under 13 Boys team highest placed at 12th and other high placings for Under 15, Isaac Murray, who produced his best run of the winter to finish a superb 6th and Harris Mier at 12th in the Under 17 Men.
In this high level of competition, where each County was able to select eight of their best athletes for all the Junior races and nine in the Senior, plus the additional spice of combining the event with the World selection trials, anyone close to the top 100 were in good company.
Cornwall had several who performed to this standard:
Under 13 Boys - 49 Blake Williams; 51 Jacob Webb; 56 Reen Bowden-Inoue; 75 Luke Mills
Under 13 Girls - 50 Georgina Clarke, 52 Holly Reid; 103 Agata Jecna; 126 Molly Gilbey (team - 17th)
Under 15 Girls - 56 Choire Lister; 84 Isabelle Leigh (team 26th)
Under 17 Men - 12 Harris Mier; 76 Edward Mitchell; 119 Bradley Stevens (team 16th)
Under 17 Women - 41 Louise Mitchell; 109 Mary Knowles; 112 Tilly McDowell (team 25th)
Under 20 Men - 29 Sam Goodchild; 74 Floyd Ratcliffe; 108 Jamie Williams; 116 Alexander McCartney (team 13th)
Senior Women - 35 Heidi Tregenza; 99 Katie Hughes
